Formafantasma, an Italian design studio, has created a trio of experimental installations for the Lexus Design Award 2020. The installations, titled Anticipating Lexus, explore the potential of Lexus’s design language and the possibilities of its materials. The installations are composed of three distinct elements: a sculptural installation, a light installation, and a sound installation. The sculptural installation is composed of a series of curved, interconnected elements that are made from Lexus’s signature material, spindle grille mesh. The light installation is composed of a series of LED lights that are programmed to create a dynamic, ever-changing light show. Finally, the sound installation is composed of a series of speakers that are programmed to create a unique soundscape. Together, these three installations create an immersive experience that allows visitors to explore the potential of Lexus’s design language and materials.
