2022 Acura MDX Prototype Previews Brand’s First Type S Crossover, Sharp New Styling
Acura has unveiled the prototype of its 2022 MDX Type S, the brand’s first-ever Type S crossover. The prototype previews the upcoming production model, which is expected to arrive in dealerships in the summer of 2021. The prototype features a bold new design, a powerful engine, and a host of advanced technologies.
Exterior Design
The 2022 Acura MDX Type S prototype features a bold new design that is sure to turn heads. The front end is dominated by Acura’s signature Diamond Pentagon grille, which is flanked by Jewel Eye LED headlights. The hood features a power bulge and a pair of air intakes, while the sides are characterized by sharp lines and muscular wheel arches. The rear end is highlighted by a large spoiler, a dual exhaust system, and a pair of LED taillights.
Interior Design
The interior of the 2022 Acura MDX Type S prototype is just as impressive as the exterior. The cabin is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for up to seven passengers. The dashboard is dominated by a large touchscreen display, while the center console features a rotary knob for controlling the infotainment system. The seats are upholstered in premium leather, and the steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara.
Powertrain
The 2022 Acura MDX Type S prototype is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that produces 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and is capable of propelling the crossover from 0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. The engine is also equipped with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system, which provides improved traction and handling.
Technology
The 2022 Acura MDX Type S prototype is packed with advanced technologies. The infotainment system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
